The Roots that Started the Game of Bingo
The start of bingo did not happen within a snap. It actually involved a long process which was constantly redefined to fit the game we now commonly know as bingo. According to the experts, the start of bingo actually dates back in the early years of the 1800s. Moreover, the game has also been traced back to begin within the European region. At the time, the start of bingo closely resembled the rules and regulations being employed with lottery. Back in the year of 1530, the early start of bingo and its roots can be traced to the old game of Lo Giuoco del Lotto.
Aside from its general theme, the start of bingo also differed from the ones we know today in terms of the materials being used to play the game. Although game cards are nothing new, the start of bingo before was only being played in cards divided by three horizontal rows which also have nine columns in total. Looking closely, this is very different from the game cards we use now, as the current card measures a five by five column and width measurement division. This new feature also corresponds to each of the letters in the name BINGO.
Moreover, during the start of bingo there is a longer range of numbers being used for the cards. Back then, the numbers included in the card range from 1 up to 90 while these days, our bingo cards are already arranged from 1 until 75. But in terms of the playing the game, the start of bingo has the same rules as it applies to what we now know and use for our own bingo games. Certain patterns are also being followed before, like crossing out the patterns horizontally and also vertically for every row or column. There are also blank squares within the card which are being marked as "free."
Most experts say that the start of bingo was boosted even further because of the Great Depression. The start of bingo boom emerged especially in the United States during that time when Americans wanted to seek a diversion from the miserable life experiences brought in by the Great Depression. Bingo immediately became a hit as it was introduced to the public and also proved to be a great fundraising event. From then on, bingo became a pivotal part of the American life and was played for more than just gambling purposes. This fact, as we know, still remains true up to this day and age.
